Tom: I think as you get older, you start to realize how much more of these relationships really mean.
Amy: I would say that if there’s really something you want to do, go for it. You never know when your number’s up, and things can change on a dime. If you are passionate about something and you want to do it, go for it, be fearless, and don’t underestimate yourself.

Emily: Hello and welcome back. This is our first double interview with Tom and Amy from Good Buddy Edibles. I’m excited to discuss how cannabis fits into their lifestyle and business. Welcome, Tom and Amy.
Tom: Thank you, Emily, for having us.
Emily: You supported me during a tough time when my social platform was shut down, and I appreciate that. I’m glad we can have this conversation here now and share truthful information about cannabis.
Tom: It came from a place of concern and wanting to support you.
Emily: Tell us how you got started with cannabis and what brought you to making edibles.
Tom: We lived on the West Coast in the nineties and later returned to the East when cannabis was still largely illegal in New York. We wanted a reliable, high-quality supply. After growing a few plants and making items like brownies for friends and a dear, terminally ill friend who couldn’t access a dispensary, we refined recipes and focused on consistent, low-dose products with clear ingredient labels so customers—including those with allergies—know exactly what they’re eating.
Emily: Who are your customers?
Tom: Many of our customers are in the 30–50+ range and include community members such as teachers, health inspectors, and neighbors. They appreciate trusted, predictable dosing and products they can portion for different effects—half a brownie for mild relief or a whole one when they need more.
Emily: How do you educate new or older clients?
Tom: We always ask about prior edible experience and recommend starting with a very small portion—sometimes a quarter of a brownie—then waiting and adjusting slowly. Clear labels and dosage guidance are central to our approach.
Emily: How do you split roles in your business?
Tom: I make the cannabutter and calculate dosage. I use tools to estimate THC percentages so dosing is consistent.
Amy: I’m the baker. Tom handles the math and infusion; I focus on texture, flavor, and product ideas. We created a soft cookie—called a “softie”—to better suit customers who have trouble chewing.
Emily: How do you each use cannabis personally?
Tom: I use it to manage anxiety and to help me step back from perfectionism at work. It lets me relax without turning to alcohol.
Amy: I use it to unwind and boost creativity after a busy day. It helps me relax and generate new ideas.
Emily: How has cannabis affected your relationship?
Tom: It’s created rituals and shared projects—growing, making, and learning together. Small, thoughtful actions make life richer.
Amy: Seeing Tom care for plants brings him joy, and that joy radiates through our life. Working together has strengthened our bond.
Tom: Today happens to be our 25th wedding anniversary, which made sharing this conversation extra special.
Emily: What advice do you have for anyone wanting to start a cannabis edible business?
Tom: Be transparent about ingredients and sourcing. Clear labels and consistent dosages build trust.
Amy: Have fun and follow your passion. If you love what you make and create a quality product, people will notice. Listen to customer feedback and adapt—our softie cookie came from that process.
Emily: Quick rapid-fire questions: What are you most proud of?
Tom: I’m proud of the people our daughters are becoming.
Amy: I’m proud of Tom—his resilience and enthusiasm make our family stronger.
Emily: What would life look like without cannabis?
Tom: Without it, I might have turned back to alcohol; cannabis helped me close that chapter.
Amy: It has reduced my reliance on prescriptions and given me tools to navigate hard times with fewer side effects.
Emily: Advice to your younger selves?
Tom: Keep people close—relationships matter more with time.
Amy: If you want to do something, be fearless and go for it. Don’t underestimate yourself.
Emily: If you could be remembered for one thing in the cannabis space?
Tom: That everything we grew was purely organic.
Amy: Bringing smiles with desserts—making cannabis friendly, approachable, and shareable.
Emily: Thank you both for sharing your story on your anniversary. Where can people find Good Buddy Edibles?
Amy: We’re on Instagram where we use the profile to display our menu and showcase desserts.
Emily: Thank you again for joining us. Your work—providing reliable, thoughtfully prepared edibles for people who need them—is meaningful and inspiring.
