Saturday Seed Ideas: Weekend Planting Tips for Gardeners

I did it — I shattered my iPhone.

After five wonderful years of owning various iPhone models and surviving countless drops without a scratch, I finally cracked the screen. It looked like a spiderweb, and fittingly I felt trapped and unsure what to do. I had owned the phone only 40 days. This time I skipped AppleCare, thinking, “I’ve never needed it before — why pay?” Clearly that was a mistake.

The next day I loaded the kids into the car and headed to the Apple Store, hoping a frazzled mom with a baby and a toddler might get some sympathy. I explained my predicament and the “genius” quoted me $150 plus tax to replace the screen. My dramatic plea and the kids’ puppy‑dog eyes didn’t budge the price at first. After a few minutes the technician checked with a manager and returned with a compromise: they would cover half. I walked out paying $75 plus tax. So maybe the theatrics worked in the end — but I’m prepared for next time: they’ll likely charge full price. Where would you go to fix an iPhone screen for less?

(And please, spare me the OtterBox lecture — I know about them. My last phone had one and it performed well, but it stretched and tore and became annoying. I wanted something both cute and rugged and had high hopes for the Luvvitt case, but it didn’t prevent this mishap.)

On a brighter note, Judah and I met some friends to celebrate Cow Appreciation Day at Chick‑fil‑A. It was a fun outing — did you go?

Earlier this week we attended a superhero birthday party where each boy made and took home his own cape. Super cool and very creative!

Now, onto what you really came for — the food.

Recently On Seeded at the Table: A quick look at recent recipes and updates.

Glazed Fruit Salad – A nostalgic fruit salad made quick with a small package of instant pudding mix for a creamy glaze.

Chocolate Chip Banana Bread French Toast – Banana bread, lightly fried then finished in the oven for a warm center and crispy exterior.

Chicken & Grilled Corn Salad with Greek Yogurt Vinaigrette – A quick salad with a sweet and tangy yogurt dressing, perfect for lunch or a side.

Avocado Lime Dip – A quick blender dip with few ingredients for a healthy, flavorful snack.

No-Bake Summer Berry Bread Pudding – A cool, no‑bake dessert that’s perfect for hot weather.

Homemade Cheez-It Snack Crackers – Homemade cheese crackers that stand up to the store‑bought version.

Berry Cobbler
Our Favorite Berry Cobbler – A quick mixed berry cobbler topped with a scoop of ice cream — a classic favorite.

Loving Lately:
Small favorites and finds I’ve been enjoying recently.

Diono Buggy Buddy Stroller Organizer – I love my stroller, and the affordable stroller caddy I found pairs perfectly with it. It has two cup holders, a center pocket for keys and odds and ends, and a zippered pocket for a phone or valuables. It’s waterproof and insulated, easy to attach with Velcro straps, and a great value for the price.

DietBet – I recently started a DietBet group and ten friends have joined to try to lose weight over 28 days. DietBet is a social weight‑loss game where players contribute a small bet and aim to lose 4% of their starting weight in four weeks. Initial weigh‑ins are submitted with photos and verified by referees, and the same process happens at the end of the game. The social board has been motivating and supportive so far. My strategy is to drink only water (with limited coffee) and avoid eating after 7 PM. We’ll see how it goes.

Have a great weekend!
