Unlike the Pimm’s Cup Cocktail, this Pimm’s Sundowner is a straightforward Pimm’s cocktail made without elaborate garnishes. It’s served over ice for a light, refreshing drink to enjoy at the end of the day.
I don’t drink often because I’m a lightweight, but Pimm’s is my favorite liqueur. Every now and then I make a Pimm’s cocktail, and I especially love how quick and easy this Pimm’s Sundowner is to prepare.

Why you’ll love this cocktail
- Only four ingredients are needed.
- Super simple to make — no shaker or special tools required.
- Extremely refreshing, ideal for unwinding on warm evenings.
Ingredients and substitutions
The full list of ingredients and quantities is in the recipe card below. Notes and substitution tips:

- Pimm’s No. 1 – a gin-based, spiced liqueur. This cocktail relies on Pimm’s No. 1; replacing it with a plain gin will change the character of the drink.
- Orange juice – fresh-squeezed orange juice gives the best, brightest flavor. Bottled juice works if fresh isn’t available.
- Apple juice – fresh apple juice is recommended for the cleanest taste. Avoid concentrate when possible.
- Lemonade – fresh lemonade is lovely, but a good-quality bottled lemonade is a convenient, sweetened option that speeds up the recipe.
How to make Pimm’s Sundowner
Fill a small glass with ice. Add the Pimm’s, orange juice, apple juice and lemonade. Stir gently, garnish with an orange slice if you like, and serve immediately.

I adapted this version years ago from a Pimm’s recipe that’s no longer available online. The original used fresh lemon juice and a touch of sugar syrup; I preferred the softer lemon profile achieved by using lemonade instead.
FAQs
A sundowner, in British usage, refers to an alcoholic drink taken at the end of the workday, typically around sunset.
Pimm’s released a bottled “Sundowner” with raspberry and redcurrant notes. This homemade recipe uses classic Pimm’s No. 1 and is different from that bottled variant.
